July 14th-July 28th 2017

I am only taking 4 people

Wild Compass is proud to offer Mongolia in conjunction with Kevin & Chris Pepper of North of 49 Photography tours in offering you this unique photographic and cultural experience.
You can see more of their tours at

If you want to travel to a unique land that many will only ever read about in magazines? Do you like to capture people in traditional costumes, maybe even photograph the 1000 year old tradition of eagle falconry on horseback that most people don't know even exists? If you said yes to any of these, this is a photography trip you should consider.

In addition to photographing nomadic cultures that have existed for hundreds and thousands of years, you will get to photograph mountain landscapes, mountain lakes, and if the skies cooperate, some of the darkest skies filled with more stars than you have ever seen.

This tour is an immersion into the Nomadic Culture of Mongolia. The majority of our time will be in two distinct remote areas of Mongolia. The western provinces to photograph the Kazakh Eagle Hunters and to the north to photograph the Nomadic Reindeer People, the Tsaatans.

Day 1. Jul 14. Airport transfer for those arriving on this day. Hotel-9. Tonight we will gather for a group dinner and then head to a local theater.

Day 2. Jul 15. A morning flight to Ulgii. Once we land in Ulgii we will head to the local bazaar to photograph the locals buying and selling everything from clothes to meat and furs. From there we will drive through the landscapes taking time to stop and photograph the panoramic vistas. At the end of the drive we will arrive with our host Kazakh family

Day 3-5. Jul 16-18. Kazakh family. Each morning and each afternoon we will have a two to three-hour private photo shoot with Kazakh Eagle Hunters in and around the local mountain ranges.

Day 6. Jul 19. One final early morning portrait photo shoot with our host Kazakh family and then transfer to Ulgii.

Day 7. Jul 20. Ulgii to Ulaanbaatar. From the airport in Ulaanbaatar you will be transferred to a Ger Camp near the sand dunes. This is the perfect area to photograph camels and camel riders along the golden sand dunes.

Day 8-9. Jul 21-22. The group travels to HUSTAI TO SEE WILD HORSES, STAY OUT BY THE SAND DUNES ON NIGHT OF 21 AND 22. You will see a MONESTARY, SAND DUNES, PHOTOGRAPH LANDSCAPES AND RELAX. On the afternoon of the 9th you will return to Ulaanbaatar

Day 10. Jul 23. Fly from Ulaanbaatar to Moren, further drive to the Lake Huvsgul.

Day 11-13. Jul 24-26. Days to visit a summer camp of the Tsaatan Reindeer family or two, who have come down from the Taiga to the shores of the Lake Huvsgul to earn some money from tourists showcasing their huts & reindeers. This area is also a great area for landscape photography of the largest lake in Mongolia with a low lying mountain range in the background

Day 14. Jul 27. Flight back to Ulaanbaatar. Hotel-9. B, D - Upon arrival we will go to the cashmere factory so the group can take advantage of the very inexpensive cashmere in Mongolia and then go for a large group dinner at my favorite Mongolian grill house near the hotel.
